Bottom Refinishing... Fiberglass hulls have a tendency to absorb water over time. Fluid filled blisters form within the hull where the glass and gelcoat meet, due to the change in density of the fiberglass. They are filled with water and un-reacted fiberglass/hardener chemicals. While these blisters look bad and often upset boat owners, rarely do they put the boat at risk of sinking. However, blistering problems are often spotted by a surveyor when selling a boat. To prevent or correct such blisters, we coat the hull below the waterline with epoxy. Epoxies bond well to fiberglass hulls and provide more protection from water seeping into the hull than polyester resins used to build fiberglass boats.
